Rough-in, top-out, and trim-out

A remodel's plumbing happens in stages, and we explain them in plain terms.

Rough-in is the in-wall and under-floor work: the supply and drain lines that get inspected before the walls close.

Top-out ties the system together above the slab and sets it up for fixtures.

Trim-out is the finish stage, where the faucets, toilets, sinks, and shower valves go in and everything is tested.

Matching each stage to the rest of the build is what keeps a remodel on schedule.

Gas lines for the kitchen

A kitchen remodel often moves or adds gas appliances, and that is plumbing work too. We run and relocate gas lines for a range or cooktop, size the line for the appliance's demand, and pressure-test and permit the work. If you are moving from electric to gas, or adding a line for a new range, we plan the route with the rest of the remodel so the wall only has to open once.

Working around the other trades

Plumbing rarely happens alone in a remodel. The rough-in has to be set before insulation and drywall close the walls, the tub or shower base often goes in before the tile, and the finish fixtures wait until the counters and cabinets are set. We time our stages to the framing, tile, and cabinet work so each trade has what it needs when it arrives, and we keep the water and drain locations exact to the plans so the finish lands where it was drawn. That coordination is what keeps a remodel moving through the plumbing stage.

Moving plumbing the right way

Relocating a fixture is more than sliding a pipe over. Drains need the correct slope to keep draining, vents have to stay within code, and supply lines have to land exactly where the new fixtures will sit. We plan the moves so the finished room works as well as it looks, and so it passes inspection the first time. Larger jobs that reach into the home's main lines connect naturally to our whole-house repipe work.

Setting the fixtures

When the room is ready, we set the fixtures you chose: the faucets, the toilet, the sink or vanity, the shower valve and trim, a freestanding tub filler, or a pot filler over the range. We connect and test each one, check for leaks under normal pressure, and make sure the drains carry cleanly. The plumbing is the part of the remodel you use every day, so we finish it to work as well on the hundredth day as on the first.

Permits and code

Remodel plumbing is permitted work, built to the Uniform Plumbing Code. Depending on the address, the permit runs through the City of Camas Building Division or through Clark County. We pull it, build to it, and handle the inspection, so your remodel has its plumbing signed off and documented.
